Pura Vida is committed to offering you organic, wholesome, minimally processed, and local (when possible) food items to get you through your day. We don't believe you have to compromise the quality of your food in order to get something quick or on the run. You can feel confident choosing food products at Pura Vida because they contain high quality protein, are nutrient dense, have low added sugar, and were made from whole foods! We strive to bring you the latest and best healthful products to support your workouts, and help you embody the good life.

We've selected Terra Plana, and their VIVOBAREFOOT line, as our exclusive minimalist shoe provider.
We support the Barefoot Movement and feel that it can provide benefits to many. However, it's important to acknowledge your transition from a traditional shoe to a minimalist shoe/barefoot training. Removing the heel rise in your shoe will affect your gait. Increasing your activity in these shoes conservatively and including foot strengthening exercises in your regime is key to having a successful transition.Barefoot and minimalist shoe training can strengthen your feet and recruit additional muscle fibers throughout the lower leg, improve stability and mobility throughout your ankle joint, increase your proprioceptive feedback, encourage a more natural gait and overall movement.

TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH
JONATHAN DIMARCOFront Desk Lead
Experience/Course of Study:
Graduated in May from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.S. in International Business and Sign Language.
First Job: Resident Assistant in the dorms for five years.
Wellness Philosophy:
"Fitness needs to be perceived as fun or we subconsciously avoid it."
- Alan Thicke
Childhood Ambition:
Wanted to be a train conductor until I found out how dirty of a job it was, so I wanted to be an Olympic athlete.
Proudest Accomplishment:
My first full marathon - Even though I did not finish with a time I wanted, I was proud of the countless miles I did to prepare for the race and that I didn't give up. This led to my second proudest accomplishment, which registering for my next marathon and finishing 1st in my division, and setting a course record in my age category.
Indulgence:
I love eating doughnuts (usually the entire box)! A close second would be soft, chewy homemade cookies or Dark Chocolove bars.
Inspiration:
For everything you've missed, you've gained something else; For everything you gain, you lose something else. Its about your outlook towards life. You can either regret or rejoice. I don't dwell on the past because I cannot change it, but use what I have learned from it to guide my future. Smile, because it looks great on you.
PURA VIDA LOVES
Root Down
rootdowndenver.com
Arguably one of the best dining scenes in Denver. Root Down continues to serve up great food. The concept of ‘real food’ from farm-to-table and the idea that great food should be accessible….inclusive and not exclusive, echoes Pura Vida’s philosophy. Fresh, organic and REAL somehow translates into fitness as well! It’s always nice to see so many of our members enjoying chef Justin Cucci’s creations.
Parallel 17
parallelseventeen.com
Chef Mary Nguyen, in our book, just “get’s it”. Her modern interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine is a stand out, and the vibe of her 17th ave restaurant speaks to our PV culture. Check out the brunch menu as well as the late night scene (food served until 11pm usually accompanied by a very hip DJ spinning in the small dining room) and you have an experience that challenges the Denver dining scene to take it up a notch.
MCA Denver
mcadenver.org/index.php/exhibitions
Let’s start by saying Adam Lerner is a genius. It’s rare to peruse a museum’s collection and experience an entire gamut of emotions within an hour. Laughter turns into anger which morphs into awe and amazement. Everything about the MCA from the finely curated exhibits to the website to the after-hours events, speaks of a talented Director who is absolutely fearless. The building, by London based architect David Adjaye is his first in the US and is worth the visit alone. (Adjaye was named the designer of the Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center site in NYC). Pura Vida was fortunate to be hosted by the MCA for one of the our monthly happy hours and people are still talking about it. Check out the pics.
Ballet Nouveau Colorado
bncdance.com
Named “25 to watch” for 2009 in Dance Magazine (huge!) Ballet Nouveau continues to gain momentum as the dance company to follow. Artistic Director, Garrett Ammon, leads this company at a velocity that is astounding, particularly for Denver. Watching “Rock”, a spectacular amalgam of modern dance, ballet and…I don’t know what (but it worked!) had the companies twelve young and amazing dancers creating a story to music by Bowie, INXS and Queen. The choreography is truly astounding and you have to pinch yourself to make sure you’re not in SF or NYC. We cannot recommend enough checking out this innovative and important dance company.
Lululemon
lululemon.com
Okay, so this seems like a no-brainer. It’s not uncommon to be at Pura Vida on any given night of the week and see a majority of the staff and members wearing the ubiquitous (and subtle) lulu logo.
The clothing company (which started out in Vancouver by Chip Wilson who was in the surf, skate and snowboard business) creates perfectly fitted and designed clothing that is perfect for all things Pura Vida. Strong brands are developed by creating an authentic culture, and Lululemon has it in spades. It’s not enough that the clothing is well made, tasteful and under-the-radar cool, but the philosophy and the vision behind the company mimics Pura Vida’s belief that life should be in balance, karma is real and trying to do good on a daily basis is essential. We love Lulu.
GivingFirst
givingfirst.org
“Giving first’s motto is ‘Give where you live.’ It is a program of the Nonprofit Preservation Initiative which was created to preserve the future of Denver area nonprofits. Click on the Donate Now button and hundreds of Colorado-based organizations come up for you to chose from. The cool part about the site is that you can go to the Giving Basket and credit an account of a friend or family member as a gift. The numerical dollar amount is emailed to your recipient, and they then get to chose the charity, organization or cause in which to donate.
